There aren’t many football leagues in the world which compare to the excitement and thrill of the English Premier League as records continue to be broken and milestones surpassed.

A piece of Premier League history was reached at the weekend as Zlatan Ibrahimovic bagged the 25,000th goal of the Premier League era as Man United fans bought tickets to watch the 3-1 Swansea defeat at the Liberty Stadium.

Football fans have been blessed with some memorable strikes over the past twenty-four seasons and Football Ticket Pad customers have been lucky enough to catch some of the action live.

It was fitting that the landmark was hit by a Manchester United player, seeing as the club are also the top scorers in the top flight since the Premier League inception in 1992. United lead the way with 1,817 goals with Arsenal (1,645 goals) and Chelsea (1,586 goals) making up the top three.

It is Manchester United who dominate the individual Premier League honours. Alan Shearer may top the charts with 260 goals, but he is closely followed by Wayne Rooney in second place with 194 goals. Of the top ten, there are another three former United players with Andy Cole (187 goals), Michael Owen (150 goals), and Teddy Sheringham (146 goals), in third, seventh and tenth respectively.
There is no doubt that the Premier League is a sporting phenomenon across the world as twenty clubs battle it out over a grueling ten-month season with over 930 million people worldwide avidly watching the drama unfold with every kick, every tackle and every goal.

Since 1992, there have been 47 different teams who has scored in the top flight and the excitement surrounding Premier League football tickets continues to grow each season, as fans watch their beloved clubs play at some of the world’s most iconic football arenas in the world, from Old Trafford, The Emirates, Anfield and beyond.

Ibrahimovic joins Les Ferdinand and Marc Albrighton in the Premier League landmark archive. Ferdinand and Albrighton netted the 10,000th and 20,000th goals respectively and there is no doubt that there is plenty of more goals to come in the Premier League era. When the Swede was asked if he was aware that his first strike against Swansea was the 25,000th in the competition’s history, he responded in typical Zlatan fashion: “Ah, no I wasn’t. I thought that was only me who had scored 25,000.”

There have been some memorable strikes over the years from some Premier League greats, Thierry Henry, Gianfranco Zola, Luis Suarez or the more obscure likes of Tony Yeboah for Leeds United.

Who can forget David Beckham’s exquisite effort against Wimbledon on the opening day of the 1996-97 season? From just inside his own half, Beckham spotted Neil Sullivan off his line and launched a wonderful effort over the back-pedalling goalkeeper to wrap up a 3-0 victory for United.

Thierry Henry’s sumptuous volley against Manchester United in 2000 is another standout. At Highbury, the Frenchman received the ball on the edge of the box with his back to goal before flicking the ball up and swiveling to hit an unstoppable volley over a stranded Fabian Barthez.

Or perhaps more recently, in 2011 when Wayne Rooney scored a stunning overhead kick in the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford against Manchester City to clinch a 2-1 victory as United went on to win their twentieth Premier League crown in 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Premier League is constantly expanding and the demand for football tickets continues to grow with some of the best players on the planet playing for some of England’s leading clubs. The Premier League has come a long way in the last fourteen seasons and here is to many more years of records, goals and drama that us football fans have grown to know and love.
