The Premier League is widely considered to be the best league in the world. To score at this level takes a special kind of player, and in this article, we’re going to take a look at the best of the best.

Alan Shearer (260 Goals)

Alan Shearer is without a doubt Newcastle United's greatest-ever player. He’s a legendary hero in the North East and has cemented an everlasting legacy in his childhood home.

But it’s not just his boyhood club that holds him in high regard. Shearer is one of the best English players of all time and holds the record for the most goals in Premier League history with an incredible 260 goals. This record surpasses all other contenders by a fair distance and will be hard to beat.

Harry Kane is the only other player in the top 10 who currently has a chance of surpassing this, but if his current form continues that’s unlikely to happen in the next few years.

Shearer’s former club has recently been taken over by former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe after a huge influx of cash.

Wayne Rooney (208 Goals)

Wayne Rooney started his Premier League career with an Everton debut at just 16 years of age. He was one of the most talented young players in world football had ever seen and scored some incredible goals in this period.

Making his debut for England shortly after, he became their youngest-ever goalscorer. After two years of playing for his boyhood club at the top level, he was signed by Manchester United.

Whilst at United, he became only the second English player to win the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Cup Europa League, League Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

He is both Manchester United and England’s top goalscorer.

Andy Cole (187 Goals)

Here we have a player who scored for both Manchester United and Newcastle United in the Premier League. Andy Cole had a long and fruitful career and played for numerous clubs throughout his time on the pitch.

He is most well known for his time playing for Manchester United between 1995 and 2001. He scored 93 goals for Man U overall.

Prior to this, he bagged 55 goals for Newcastle United in just 2 years. His overall Premier League record came in at 187 goals, making him the third top Premier League goalscorer of all time.

Sergio Aguero (184 Goals)

Aguero is well known for being the man behind one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history, scoring a last-minute goal to win Manchester City its first title in 44 years, just when it seemed as though all hope had gone.

In his time at Manchester City, he actually beat Wayne Rooney in one particular area. He scored 184 goals for Manchester City, which is the single most goals for one player at one club.

This kind of record makes many questions whether Aguero could have gone on to an even higher position on this list. However, after a decade in Manchester, his heart was set on a move to Barcelona.

An interesting thing about Aguero’s record is that he wasn’t always the most consistent. Whilst undoubtedly an incredible player, he would have spells without scoring.

He would then score several in one game and go on a great run. This is indicated by his position as the man to score the most hat-tricks in Premier League history.

Frank Lampard (177 Goals)

During his playing career, a debate often loomed over the head of Frank Lampard. This concerned a single question: Lampard or Gerrard?

Well, in terms of goalscoring, there can be only one winner and that’s Frank with Chelsea Football Club. With 177 goals in the Premier League, he was one of the best midfielders to ever play the game. He was a gifted box-to-box midfielder with a lot of skills in his wheelhouse.

His family are full of footballing legends, such as his father Frank Lampard Snr, uncle Harry Redknapp, and cousin Jamie Redknapp. There must be something in the water at their family parties.

Thierry Henry (175 Goals)

Children who grew up during Arsenal’s “invincibles” era would imitate Thierry Henry all around the country. His style, flare, and goal-scoring ability made him impressive to all football fans.

Henry had a massive career, playing for several clubs at the top level, but he is best known in the UK for his time at Arsenal. This is where he scored 175 Premier League goals. He received the Premier League golden boot four times, which is still the record to this day.

Harry Kane (167 Goals)

Harry Kane is the only player on the list who currently plays in the Premier League. This means he has a chance of surpassing several of the players above him, and there is a high chance he will climb the leaderboard. Whether or not he will reach Alan Shearer’s level is another question.

Since joining Tottenham Hotspur, Kane has become one of the top strikers in the world. Some would argue he is the best out-and-out striker around right now.

This season hasn’t started very well for him after a failed move to Manchester City, and many pundits have accused him of downing tools for former Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santos.

With Antonio Conte taking the reins, could we see Kane return to his former goal-scoring form any time soon?

Robbie Fowler (163 Goals)

Robbie Fowler is best known for his time with Liverpool FC, his hometown club. Despite growing up an Evertonian, Fowler was a club legend after playing for LFC between 1993 and 2001, during which he scored 120 goals for the Reds. He later returned in 2006, scoring a further 8 goals for the club.

Fowler was a controversial figure at times but always performed on the pitch. He stood up for social causes during his time as a player, supporting the Liverpool Dockers strike in 1997.
